About

Super Massive is the collaboration of singer/writer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer/composer Glenn Abbott.

Together the duo make intense, exhilarating and sexy electro/alternative/pop music, driven by funky dance grooves and delivered with the lustiness of a rock band. Imagine if you blended AC/DC or Led Zeppelin with Daft Punk or Basement Jaxx, added some Garbage, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Siouxsie Sioux & Florence & The Machine, and finished it off with a dash of Depeche Mode and Muse.

With bassist Dan Bruce joining them for live shows, Super Massive have toured Australia & Asia receiving rave reviews, hot ticket recommendations & hit predictions. Last year MX Magazine featured Super Massive on the cover as “one of Sydney’s best emerging electronic/dance/rock bands”; Time Off named them a band “On The Up” and Scout TV named them one of the Top 5 breakthrough Australian bands of 2009 alongside Art Vs Science. The duo also have a MusicOz Award for Best Alternative Artist under their belts.

SUPER MASSIVE
November 2011 Update - Mixing PDF Print E-mail

Time has gone like a flash since we played that massive stage on a sand dune in Mui Ne, Vietnam in March this year. Our Vietnamese booker has teased us with one email about another possible show at Hanoi Stadium... which holds 40,000 people (!) ....  but we await further news...

Throughout winter we've been continuing to record more songs for what we hope may be our debut album...

Right now we're busy mixing at Puzzle Factory, and we have seven songs pretty much complete. Two more left to record and mix...

Our landlord kicked us out of our ramshackle Sutherland house so we had to dismantle the studio and there's been a lot of disruptions...

We've now moved ourselves to an art deco cottage with 60s wallpaper in the kitchen and a spectacular garden overlooking Shipwright's Bay... and a shitload of bindiis on the lawn (and the carpet)... still unpacking boxes...

Feel like it's been ages since we did a show in Sydney, but... we must keep onwards with our recording and mixing, so that we can have something to show for ourselves before summer is out.

Hope we see you soon.

First show for 2011 - Beaches Hotel, Thirroul PDF Print E-mail

Happy New Year !

Hope you had a decadently fantastic & relaxing Xmas and NYE.

After a long seven months off, writing and recording new songs, Super Massive is coming out for a summer show at The Beaches Hotel, Thirroul (just north of Wollongong) with an expanded line-up. Looking forward to hitting the stage again! And we'll be playing an extended set.

Details are:

Saturday 15th January 2011
The Beaches Hotel, Thirroul

272 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Thirroul, NSW - (02) 4267 2288

Entry is free. Bands start 9pm and Super Massive on at 10pm.

I know some people were booking rooms at the hotel. The hotel advises us this morning that there is only one room left, so be quick if you want to grab that one! Otherwise, you could try the nearby Ryan's Hotel or Thirroul Beach Motel.

We don't have any other gigs booked in at the moment (apart from a return to Vietnam in March for another festival there), so it may be a couple of months before we play another show locally.

In other things, now that myspace has changed its format (and become totally shithouse) we're having trouble wrangling it to keep it up to date, so.. might be best to come see us at Facebook or our wesite www.supermassive.com.au for updates.

Hope you're enjoying the summer, and hope we see you there at The Beaches Hotel.
